Elphin GAA Update August 18th

Elphin Ballinameen Underage Round-up

The Minors had their third outing of this year’s championship on Tuesday evening away to Boyle. They came away with 2 valuable points after a well deserved victory on the night. The Elphin-Ballinameen team found themselves ahead in the game early on and never looked back, leading throughout and managing to accumulate an impressive score line of 3-16 to 1-9. However the game wasn’t to be a walk in the park as Boyle forced the young team into making numerous errors throughout the first half. The highlight of the half came around the 20 minute mark when midfielder Ronan Garvin kicked low and hard into the Boyle net to extended the teams lead to 1-6 to 0-4 at the break and give the score line a fairer look after a strong half from the minors.
As the game progressed, Elphin-Ballinameen become more comfortable and seemed rejuvenated after the break. This was rewarded with a stunning team goal finished expertly from Gavan Murray, followed up by a flurry of scores and another goal from Ballinameen man Shane O’Neil after the Elphin-Ballinameen forwards piled pressure on the Boyle defence. Boyle had a purple patch near the end of the second half but the defence stood strong and weathered the Boyle storm to come out comfortable victors on a full time scoreline of 3-16 to 1-9. This was the lads second win of their campaign and they will be out next in September against Strokestown.

Our u14’s played Kilmore-Shannon Gaels-St. Ronans in Kilmore on Sunday morning in a cliched game of 2 halves playing against a stiff breeze we trailed 4-6 to 2-2 at 1/2 time after some strong words of encouragement by the management at the break the lads put in a superb second half performance losing out narrowly on a final scoreline of 5-8 5-4. Training continues Wednesday and Friday evenings at 6:45pm in the Orchard.

Well done to our u6/u8s who put on a great display at half time on Saturday evening.
