Elphin GAA Update October 22nd

: Congratulations and well done to the Junior Bs on winning the County Final on Saturday last, for the first time since 1990. It was great for everyone to see some silverware coming to the club. Elphin led the game from the start and never looked back. With a great all round team performance and everyone giving it their all, it was a great blend of youth and experience. Final Score 1.17 to 1.6.

Elphin/Ballinameen Underage Round-up

Elphin/Ballinameen GAA held their final night for our U8, U6 and ABC teams. Over 70 players received a medal from our special guests on the night Fintan Cregg and Enda Killoran. Thank you to all the players, their parents and the coaches for all their hard work throughout the year.

Elphin GAA Update October 16th

: Another fantastic win for the Junior Bs last weekend. They defeated St Ronans by 2-10 to 1-6 in a hard fought battle in Ballyfarnan. This means they are now through to the Division 4 League Final and they will also play their League football in Division 3 / the Tansey Cup next year.
The team also have another big day this Saturday. They will be hoping to bring silverware home when they take on Oran in the Championship Final in Castlerea (Note change of venue) at 4.30pm so let’s get the flags dusted off and come out and support the lads. What a great achievement to get to a championship and league final, well done team and management!

Elphin GAA Update October 12th

Well done to the Juniors on a fantastic win over Boyle last Friday evening in Tarmonbarry under lights. It was a brilliant all round team performance. Elphin took the lead from the start and never looked back. Final score: Elphin 2-14 Boyle 1-10

We are now in the County Junior B final. We last won junior b in 1990, but we lost the 1999 county final in and for some of these players it will be there first appearance in a county final at adult level. Please make sure and come out and support team and management against Oran in the Final on October 20th in Strokestown at 4:30pm.

The Division 4 Team take on St Ronans in Ballyfarnon on Sunday at 12pm in the League Semi-Final. Best of luck to all involved.

The seniors were due to take on St Faithleachs in the league tomorrow, but this has been cancelled.

Well done to our minor girls on their County Final win on Friday night in Tarmonbarry. The girls showed great patience in the opening quarter when there was little to separate the teams. However 3 well worked goals before half time provided a comfortable lead and despite a second half comeback from the Barry’s girls the Elphin Kilmore Ladies showed great determination to see out the game on a score of 4-14 to 2-06. Many thanks to all who travelled to cheer on this team.
The last team standing are our u16 girls who are back training and awaiting a date for their Div 1 q/f game v Padraig Pearses.

Hard luck to the U14 Team who got beaten by a much stronger Oran team in the Championship Knockout.

The U16 team are down to play a Championship Knockout v Boyle on Sunday next at 12pm. Best of luck to everyone.

The ABCs are back in the Community Hall in Elphin for 3 weeks starting at 7:00pm until 8:00pm. On the last Friday, the 5th of October we hope to have a party and presentation for all U8, U6 and ABC participants this year.

The Minors played Ros Gaels on Thursday and lost out 2-10 to 3-13. They ended their Championship campaign after a exciting hard fought game v Kilmore/Shannon Gaels/St. Ronan’s on a score line of 2-10 to 1-11. Hard luck but well done to everyone involved.
All roads lead to Tarmombarry this Friday night the 21st where our minor ladies will compete in the County Final against the home team St. Barry’s at 8pm. Hopefully our girls can go one better than last year and bring home the cup. After an earlier encounter a few weeks back our girls eventually came out on top, but these are two well matched teams so it promises to be a good game. All support greatly appreciated.
A special word of thanks to the 7 mums who looked after the 30 girls who all travelled to the Ladies All Ireland Finals in Croke Park on Sunday. We hope they had a great day.

Elphin Ballinameen Underage Round-up

U12 Summer League v St. Michaels in Orchard at 7pm on Monday 10th
Minor Championship game v Roscommon Gaels on Thursday at 7pm in Lisnamult. They also play Kilmore/Shannon Gaels on Sunday next at 11.30.
U14 Garda Cup is provisionally fixed for Thursday evening v Kilmore/Shannon Gaels/St. Ronan’s in the Orchard at 6.45.
The U17 Regional Competition kicks off on Friday 14th. We are grouped with Strokestown/St. Barry’s/Kilglass for this competition and the group will play St. Brigids in Strokestown at 8pm
Results:
Our U12’s drew with St. Ciarans on a score line of 16pts each and beat St. Faithleachs 22pts to 16.
Our U16’s have finished their campaign for this year being beaten by Boyle and Kilmore/Shannon Gaels/St. Ronan’s.
The U14’s beat Kilglass/St. Barry’s in a hard fought game on Thursday last and beat them 2-10 to 3-9.

The club would like to thank John Willie Conroy who has stepped down as manager for our u16s. Willie has shown great dedication to club as a coach and has been a great mentor to the lads. He is finishing on a high note with the current team as they won the division 2 league this year.

All Ireland Ladies Finals Sunday the 16th September. There are a few places left on the bus for our annual trip to Croke Park. Anyone interested in travelling should contact John Keane.
ROSCOMMON LADIES DEVELOPMENT DRAW:
Tickets are available for the 2018/19 monthly draws from any of the Ladies Club committee members. We have girls involved in County Development squads from u13, u14, u15, u16 & u17 and the funds raised from this draw ensures that this development work continues. Our girls on the u13 & u15 squads took part in the intercounty blitz in Bekan on Saturday last.
U16 training resumes this week ahead of our Div 1 quarter final game v Padraig Pearses. Date for our u18 County Final v St. Barrys to be confirmed.

The U12’s lost out to Kilmore/Shannon Gaels on a scoreline of 16 pts to 18 pts.

The 2018 season finished up for both our u8/u10 and u14 girls this week.
The u8/u10 played their final game of the year v Shannon Gaels while our u14 lost their semi-final game to St. Faithleachs by a solitary point. Well done to both panels of girls who have improved hugely over the past year. Many thanks to the coaches Triona, Niamh, Iggy & Michelle & the parents of these girls.
Our minor girls had a hard fought semi-final win over St.Croans on Thursday. These girls will meet the winners of St.Barrys or St.Ciarans in the County Final. No date fixed yet for this fixture.
The Kilmore Ladies had mixed fortunes in the Junior Championship losing to Four Roads before beating St.Croans on Sunday to top their group and qualify for a County quarter-final spot. Elphin have 3 girls on this panel.

Elphin GAA Update August 26th

:It has been a great week for Elphin/Ballinameen U11, U14 and Minor teams.
A massive well done to our U11 team and their management on winning the Darragh Frain Memorial Cup at the weekend. What a great achievement for the Club. They played 6 matches losing 1 group game to Barna B. They beat Padraig Pearses (Roscommon), St. James, Mervue, Tulsk and Barna A (semi-final). They met Milltown (Galway) in the final & won on a score of 1-8 to NIL. Brilliant bunch of lads who improved with every game and coached by John Kelly, Joe Morris, Declan Dwyer & Sean Casey.

The U14’s played Kilglass/St. Barry’s on Monday last and beat them 2-11 to 8pts. They then took on St. Ciarans on Thursday and won 3-9 to 2-9.

The Minors has a good win over St. Ciarans beating them 2-13 to 0-11.

Also well done to U8 and U10 teams who took part in the county blitz in Bekan on Saturday. Both teams played exceptionally well. A big thank you to all the players, parents and coaches.

A busy week ahead for Elphin Kilmore LGFA. Monday: U14’s play St. Michael’s in Round 7 of the championship in Kilmore at 7pm. Our U8’s and U10’s are up against St. Mary’s Tulsk in the 2018 Summer Games at 6.30pm in Tulsk.
Tuesday: Kilmore Junior Ladies face Four Roads in a Championship game away Tuesday evening.
Wednesday: The U14 Round 6 game refix v Ballinameen will go ahead on Wednesday evening at 7pm in Ballinameen.
Thursday: Minor Championship Semi-Final v St. Croans in Kilmore at 7pm.
Friday: U8’s & U10’s play Shannon Gaels in the Bull Field, Carrick-on-Shannon at 6.30pm. This brings to an end the U8 & U10 season for 2018. Thank you to all parents and children for your cooperation throughout the year.

We are organising our now annual trip to Croke Park for the ladies All Ireland finals. The finals take place on Sunday the 16th September.
We need numbers asap in order to book a bus and order tickets. The cost will hopefully be not more than €15 pp for bus AND match tickets.
The trip is available to our U12, U14, U16 teams and younger if accompanied by a parent. Please contact John Keane if you want to go. As usual trip depends on enough adults going.

Our clothing collection is now complete and we wish to extend our gratitude to everyone who supported it by donating old clothes, it is very much appreciated.

The junior’s are playing St Faithleachs next Saturday evening in the Orchard at 7 o’clock in the final round of fixtures for the league, if they win they qualify for a play off for a spot in the semi final. Best of luck to team and management.

We will be holding a club merchandise day in the next couple of weeks, dates to be confirmed. It will be held in the Orchard and there will be samples available to try on for size on the day.

The club would like to wish Aidan Main the best of luck with his studies in Scotland. We would like to thank him for all his help and dedication in helping John coach our U16 team and for his involvement in play at Minor level.

Elphin GAA Update August 19th

Adult Football:

The seniors had a great win on Saturday evening, defeating Castlerea St Kevins on a scoreline of 4.13 to 0-10 points. Ronan Beirne, Frankie, Gerry and Damien Cregg were the goalscorers. Well done everyone.

The Juniors host St Dominics in the League on Friday at 8pm.

Elphin/Ballinameen Underage Round-up

The Minors defeated St. Faithleachs on a score line of 2-12 to 1-13 in the championship. They host St Ciarans on Monday at 7:30pm.

The Elphin Ballinameen U14’s had a good win over St Croans 4-7 to 6 points in the Garda Cup. On Monday they take on Kilglass Gaels-St Barrys at 7:30pm in Ballinameen and Thursday they are away to St. Ciarans playing in Fuerty at 7.30pm.

The U12s were defeated by Castlerea 16 to 23. They host Kilmore on Saturday at 12pm.

Out U11s are taking part in the Darren Frain Memorial Cup in Galway on Saturday next. We hope they all have a very enjoyable day.

Our U8 & U10 girls play Eire Óg and St Mary’s of Tulsk in Eire Óg Wednesday evening at 7pm as part of the 2018 Summer Games.

It’s that time of year to organise our now annual trip to Croke Park for the ladies All Ireland finals. The finals take place on Sunday the 16th September.
We need numbers asap in order to book a bus and order tickets. The cost will hopefully be not more than €15 pp for bus AND match tickets.

Congratulations to Louise Leonard and Sarah Gunn who have been selected to join the Roscommon U12 panel for next Saturdays game in the Hyde Park. These U12 girls will play an U12 Meath team at half time in the Ladies All Ireland Intermediate Semi Final – Roscommon V Meath. What a fantastic opportunity for them to represent their county and I hope they enjoy every minute of it. Best of luck girls.
