ELPHIN……2-16Tulsk……2-3A very impressive Elphin side stormed to the Supervalu U-16 football championship title when they had 13 points to spare over neighbours Tulsk in this final played in very bad weather last Sunday in Tarmonbarry. The heavy rain and strong winds made for very difficult conditions for the players but it was Elphin who coped best and they had scored 1-7 before Tulsk got on the score sheet. Shane Killoran was tormentor-in-chief and he scored Elphin’s first goal after 20 minutes play, en route to a man of the match display. Two minutes later Tulsk scored their first goal – from Donal Fleming – but further Elphin points saw the gap rise to 11 points 1-11 to 1-1 by half-time. Elphin continued on top after the half-time break and they could even afford the luxury of missing a penalty early in the half. Ten minutes in, Elphin scored their second goal when Ciaran Byrne fired home. Tulsk never gave up but they were now only playing for pride and they grabbed a second goal in the 50th minute through Declan Donoghue.
