News update September 26th

Congratulations

To the Elphin-Ballinameen U-16s on winning the Division 3 Championship title. They defeated Kilbride by 3-7 to 2-9, with the goals coming from Dylan Casey and two from Niall Higgins. The game was close throughout but thanks to a gutsy performance we won by the slimmest of margins. Well done to the players and the Management Team of Jim McLoughlin, Shane Beirne, Greg Clarke and Coman Brady. Thank you, also, to Kilglass Gaels for hosting the game and the player’s parents for providing refreshments for the homecoming.

Commiserations

To the U-12 A and B Teams who both suffered defeat in their Finals. Losing our Goalie to injury during the warm-up of the Division 2 Final, against Kilbride, made the task more difficult but despite this setback it was pulsating game and they gave it their all. The scoreline of 1-8 to 4-8 did not reflect the closeness of the game. The B Team lost out to St Dominics, who were the best team in the Division all year. Regardless of the scoreline their heads didn’t drop and they kept trying hard until the final whistle.

It was an amazing achievement for both squads to qualify for their Finals on merit, on top of winning the Division 2 Spring Shield. The Captain of the Division 2 team was Evan Murray and the Division 6 Team was captained by Ellie Brady and Paddy McTeigue. Thank you to the Management Team of Colm Finnerty, Tony Christie and Padraig Costello for their guidance and encouragement throughout the season.

Fixtures

The Junior’s game with Michael Glaveys was postponed and rescheduled for this Sunday at 12pm. It will now be the curtain raiser for the Western Gaels V Padraig Pearses Senior Championship Semi-Final at 2pm.

The U-14 County Semi-Final is due to be played over the coming weeks and the U-20 Championship will also commence next month.

The U-10s have been invited to participate in the Kilglass Gaels Blitz next Saturday.

The U-6s and U-8s will conclude their season with a skills session, fun evening and a party in the Elphin Community Centre this Friday from 7pm to 9pm. Parents are encouraged to attend for what should be a very enjoyable occasion.
