Elphin Ballinameen Underage Round-up
A brave effort Elphin Ballinameen u20s comes to an end after a sterling performance against the combined forces of Michael Glaveys/ Eire Og came up short. A win was a must to advance to the semi finals. Playing with tremendous spirit through our the home side weathered an early Glaveys – Eire Og onslaught. Brilliant goalkeeping for Glaveys Eire Og keeper denied certain goals on at least two occasions from John Rattigan and Rossa Brennan Kelly which would have put Elphin Ballinameen in control. Despite losing their influential full back Conor Egan with a shoulder injury the home side ran in at half time well in contention just 3 pts down. There was no score exchanged for the first 10 minutes of the second half before the visitors pointed. Fierce Elphin Ballinameen pressure failed to generate enough scores and with time running out and the Glaveys – Éire Óg lead being reduced to just 3pts the home side through every thing into the fray but there was no way through for the equalising goal and it was the visitors who goaled to wrap up the game. This was a short campaign but it brought together a team of players who gave their all in pursuit of glory. This was not to be however with so many players showing total commitment and effort the future is bright for this group of footballers. We wish Conor Egan a speedy recovery from the injury he picked up at the u20 match.
Elphin Ballinameen U12’s possibly playing in semi final of Keenan cup this week awaiting confirmation of date and venue. Keep an eye on our Facebook for updates.
