The club extends sympathy to the Costello family, Chapel Street, on the passing of Pat. In the 1960s and 1970s Pat ran the hugely popular Annual Sports and Athletics Day and the ever popular Donkey Derby in the Orchard. This also involved a road race from Strokestown to Elphin. Pat also established Elphin Hurling Club and in the late 1960s the juvenile team got to the County Final. There were great celebrations with bands and bonfires after the victory. After Pat stepped away from activity his interest in developing the next generation of players was continued by his family. Pat will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him and his community in Elphin. Sympathy to Bridie, Olivia Pauric and Brendan. May he rest in peace.
